A cold winter afternoon in New Delhi.CRPF personnel were on high alert at the Parliament House. At Gate No. 1, reserved exclusively for Union Ministers and Members of Parliament, a woman constable stood on duty. At the time, women constables were not issued firearms. She carried only a walkie-talkie.It was around 3:00 PM. The parliamentary session had just ended. Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Opposition Leader Sonia Gandhi had left, but many ministers and MPs were still inside, including Home Minister L.K. Advani.A white Ambassador car arrived at the gate. Seeing the red beacon and a “Home Ministry” sticker, the guards opened it. As the car entered, it suddenly accelerated, and the woman constable noticed carbines in the hands of the five occupants. She understood the danger instantly.Without hesitation, she sounded the alarm and ran toward the main building, shouting warnings. She never thought of her own safety. Her screams alerted other guards, and the terrorists too. The car rammed into Vice President Krishan Kant’s vehicle. The attackers jumped out and opened fire, targeting her.Thirty-two-year-old Kamlesh Kumari Yadav was hit by eleven bullets and died inside the Parliament complex. Even then, voices crackled through the walkie-talkie: “Fall back, Kamlesh… fall back!” But she never did. After a three-hour battle, all five terrorists were killed. Eight security personnel lost their lives; nearly eighteen were injured. Investigations later confirmed the involvement of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.Kamlesh’s warning saved countless lives.
