Community blood donation initiative calls on Mauritians to give the gift of life
FLACQ, Mauritius — The High Commission of India, in collaboration with Mauritius’ Ministry of Health and Wellness, will organise a blood donation drive on Saturday, 17 October 2026, at Coeur de Ville, Flacq, inviting members of the public to contribute to a cause that saves lives.
Scheduled to take place from 9 am to 2 pm, the initiative carries a simple but powerful message: Give blood, save lives.
Blood donation remains an essential pillar of healthcare, helping hospitals meet the needs of patients requiring blood transfusions following accidents, surgical procedures, childbirth complications and the treatment of serious illnesses. A single donation can make a meaningful difference to patients and their families.
### A Shared Commitment to Saving Lives
The collaboration between the High Commission of India and the Ministry of Health and Wellness highlights the importance of cooperation in supporting public health and encouraging community participation in life-saving initiatives.
For Mauritius, where community solidarity and collective responsibility are deeply valued, blood donation offers a practical way for individuals to serve society. It is an act of generosity that transcends background, religion and nationality, bringing people together around a common humanitarian purpose.
The drive also provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the continuing need for voluntary blood donors and the role regular donations play in supporting a reliable blood supply.
### Every Donation Counts
Members of the public are encouraged to attend the blood donation drive and, subject to medical eligibility, consider becoming donors. First-time donors can also use the occasion to learn more about the process and the importance of safe, voluntary blood donation.
Prospective donors should follow the guidance of the medical team on eligibility, preparation and post-donation care.
The message behind Saturday’s initiative is ultimately one of compassion and service: a relatively small contribution from one person can offer another a chance at recovery and renewed hope.
As the High Commission of India and the Ministry of Health and Wellness join hands for this initiative, the people of Mauritius have an opportunity to turn solidarity into action — because the gift of blood can be the gift of life.
