1978, Afghanistan
End of 70s, when cold war between USA and USSR (Russia) was inching towards climax.USSR was sponsoring communist parties all over the world and USA was funding rival of communist parties.The story starts from Afghanistan where USSR supported party gets power.
In April 1978, communist PDPA overthrew President Daoud Khan in Saur Revolution, killing him and his family.Nur Muhammad Taraki’s PDPA formed Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, signed a Soviet treaty, and pushed land reforms, sparking tribal and Islamic revolts by late 1978.By mid-1979, PDPA’s brutal reforms led to uprisings.Taraki’s deputy, Hafizullah Amin seized power by killing Taraki Amin’s Khalq faction executed thousands, destabilizing Afghanistan.His radical moves raised USSR fears he was a US agent, setting a trap for intervention.

USSR invaded Afghanistan, killed Amin, and installed Babrak Karmal.
Operation Cyclone
USA launched Operation to hit Soviet Army in Afghanistan and from here starts the story of Terrorism.
Operation was started with funding of $20-30 million in 1980
Aim was to fund mujahideen against Soviet forces, aiming to bleed the USSR in a proxy war.
There were three steps
1. Radicalize Afgani youth on name of radical Islam
2. Give them arms and training
3. To hit Soviet Army
US, Britain, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan built a network to arm Afghani and Arabi youths.Pakistan’s ISI, with CIA and MI6 support, ran arms training camps in Peshawar.Saudi Arabia gave them Wahabi training to radicalize them.China and Egypt also supplied arms to the resistance.From 1980, CIA channeled funds through ISI, which favored Islamist groups like Gulbuddin Hekmatyar’s Hezb-e-Islami.Over 100,000 fighters were trained in camps by 1986. Arab volunteers, including Osama bin Laden, arrived via Pakistan, drawn by calls for jihad against Soviet army.n 1986, CIA introduced Stinger missiles, giving mujahideen edge to down Soviet Mi-24 helicopters.Between 1986-1989, 270-300 aircraft were hit.
US aid peaked at $630 million in 1987, with Saudi funds matching it. Arms flowed through Karachi to ISI-run camps for distribution.Osama bin Laden, a Saudi, joined in 1984, founding Maktab al-Khadamat with Abdullah Azzam.
Linked to ISI, CIA backed Jalaluddin Haqqani, it funneled Arab fighters and funds.
Bin Laden trained in ISI camps, later forming al-Qaeda in 1988, using skills gained from Operation Cyclone.
Hafiz Saeed, a Pakistani cleric, joined Afghan jihad in the 1980s.
Trained in ISI camps, he taught at mujahideen centers and led Lashkar-e-Taiba, formed in 1987 with ISI support.Saeed’s group sent fighters to Afghanistan, funded partly by Saudi and US, targeting Soviet forces.Masood Azhar, a Pakistani militant, trained in ISI camps in the late 1980s. Linked to Harkat-ul-Ansar, he fought Soviets and later joined the Afghan jihad’s tail end. US and Pakistani funding supported his group’s camps, shaping Azhar’s rise as a jihadist leader by 1989.Britain’s MI6 trained mujahideen in Pakistan and supplied sniper rifles and mines.By 1987, 16,000-18,000 fighters trained annually in ISI camps.Saudi sent volunteers and funds, while Egypt provided Soviet-style arms. This coalition ensured a steady flow of men and weapons.By 1987, mujahideen, with Stingers and heavy arms, disrupted Soviet supply lines. Over 14,000 Soviet troops died by 1988.Gorbachev, facing economic strain, announced withdrawal in July 1987.
The Geneva Accords of April 1988 set a timeline for Soviet exit by February 15, 1989.Finally after 10 years, USA won this war, USSR left Afghanistan in 1989.
First USA lured USSR to invade Afghanistan in 1979 then USA trained local Afghani to fight against USSR and by 1989 they forced USSR to flee from Afghanistan.The Afghanistan mistake proved fatal for USSR.This Afghan invasion destroyed USSR financially.In 1991, USSR disintegrated in 17 countries and finally USA won this cold war and became single Boss of the world.But entire world and specially India paid the price of this victory of USA.
Just to win war, USA created a Bhasmasur called Terrorism.Afganis and Arabs were brutally radicalized on name of Islam.USA created terrorists like Osama Bin lade, Hafiz Saeed, Massod Azhar.In 1988 as USSR run from Afghanistan, Pakistan diverted these terrorists to Kashmir.That’s the reason that terrorism in Kashmir started from 1988.So terrorism was brainchild of USA and UK.Pakistan trained them by taking money from USA and rest of the story you knows.
