A Tribute to the Eternal He-Man: Dharmendra
“Some stars fade, but legends never die — they live on in every heartbeat of the stories they told.”
Today, as I stand in the autumn of my own life, I find myself wrapped not in grief, but in gratitude. For Dharmendra was never just an actor — he was the sky under which my childhood learned to dream, the wind that carried my youth through storms, and the quiet fire that warmed my adult years.
From the golden fields of Punjab to the silver screens of Bombay, he walked with the gait of a man who knew both soil and stardom. In Sholay , he wasn’t just Veeru — he was every man who ever loved fiercely, laughed loudly, and fought for friendship. In Chupke Chupke , he wasn’t just Parimal — he was the gentle chaos that reminded us love can wear many masks, but always beats with one heart.
I was a boy when I first saw him leap across rooftops, shirt fluttering like a flag of rebellion. I was a teenager when Sunny roared “Tarikh pe tarikh” and I felt justice stir in my veins. I was a man when Bobby danced barefoot on train tops and reminded me that innocence, too, could be heroic. And now, as his grandsons light up new screens, I realize — the Deols didn’t just act in films; they acted as the chapters of my life.
Dharmendra didn’t just play roles; he raised generations. He taught us that masculinity could be tender, that strength could smile, that a hero could cry and still be invincible. He showed us that love could cross boundaries — whether it was Veeru chasing Basanti or Dharam ji himself crossing societal lines to build a family that became a dynasty of grace.
Today, the He-Man has hung up his boots. But listen closely —
the dholak still echoes in Ramgarh,
the train still whistles in The Burning Train ,
and somewhere, in a quiet corner of a Punjab farmhouse,
a turbaned man with mischief in his eyes is still smiling at us —
“Jaane bhi do yaaron… main hoon na.”
Rest well, Dharam ji.
You didn’t just entertain us — you raised us.
And in every Deol who still walks the screen,
you walk with us.
Aum Shanti
