Across Mauritius, countless families draw strength from our shared values of seva (service), compassion, and unity. Today, we humbly call upon this spirit to support someone in urgent need.
Ms. Maghoo Oomeelah is currently undergoing treatment for blood cancer at Candos Hospital, and her medical team requires regular platelet donations to support her ongoing treatment.
Platelets have a very short shelf life of only 5–7 days, which means she needs at least one O+ or O– donor every week.
This appeal is not only for Hindus, but for every Mauritian—Hindu, Muslim, Christian, or any faith—who believes in helping a fellow human being during a difficult time. Helping someone in need is one of the highest acts of kindness recognised by all religious and cultural traditions of our island.
Why Platelet Donation Is So Important
Platelets are essential for:
- Preventing excessive bleeding
- Supporting cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy
- Stabilising patients during major medical treatments
A single donation can make a life-saving difference.
How You Can Help
If you are:
- O+ or O– blood group
- In good health
- Willing to donate platelets
…you could be the reason Ms. Oomeelah continues her treatment with hope and strength.
For donors who may face challenges with transportation, assistance is available. Transport to and from Candos Hospital can be personally arranged for you.
