A spectacular accident happened today at bois mangues. A private car skidded off the road and hit a tree with full frontal impact. The car took significant damage with all airbags activated, engine, windshield etc damaged.
While the car itself seems to have been totalled, the driver initially does not seem to have been significantly injured, most probably due to having been wearing a seat belt and due to the security features in the car such as airbags.
Note that modern cars are made with “softer” metals on the exterior to absorb maximum of the shock (as happens with a spring), rather than hard materials that would relay the shock to inside the cabin. The cabin itself being made of stronger material protects the passengers, allowing less fatal accidents with new cars, but more material damage to the car itself.
The driver has been taken to hospital.
