Reflecting on Dharma and Our Everyday Choices🚩
Dear Members Jai Shri Ram 🙏🏽
As we gather in weekly prayer and reflection, I feel compelled to share a thought that weighs gently—but firmly—on the conscience of many practicing Hindus today.
This morning, a well-known product brand—widely consumed by families and believed to have roots in our Dharmic land—publicly expressed pride in securing a particular certification that adheres to the religious standards of another faith. This certification involves rituals, practices, and regulations that are exclusive to that tradition, and in most cases, do not acknowledge or include Hindu participation—spiritually or practically. What moved me to reflect deeply was this: Are we, knowingly or unknowingly, contributing—financially and energetically—to a system that subtly sidelines us as Hindus?Let us be clear—this is not about disrespecting any other faith. Every community has the right to uphold its own principles. But equally, we too, as Sanatanis, have the right to live consciously by our Dharma.
🌼 Dharma is not passive. Dharma is active awareness. It guides us to make daily decisions in alignment with our sacred values, even in the marketplace.
📖 In the Bhagavad Gita 18.63, Lord Krishna tells Arjuna:“Vimṛiśyaitad aśeṣeṇa yathecchasi tathā kuru”“Deliberate on this fully, and then do as you wish.”This verse reminds us that the Divine respects our free will, but encourages us to reflect deeply before acting. When a company chooses to align itself proudly with a system that involves exclusivist religious rituals, there is often an additional cost involved—not just monetarily, but spiritually. And that cost is ultimately paid by the consumer—by us.Let us humbly ask ourselves:Is it Dharmic for us to support something that does not recognize our traditions? Are we comfortable with the idea that such systems may exclude Hindu participation, yet rely on our economic support?Should we, as protectors of Sanatan Dharma, choose silence or indifference, or can we start opting for products and practices that respect all communities equally, including ours?We are not against anyone. But we are for Dharma. We are for equal dignity, mutual respect, and conscious choice.
🪔 Let us pray that our community awakens to this gentle truth. Let us support businesses that embrace all without exclusion, and let us encourage Dharmic enterprises that uplift our values. As the Bhagavata Purana says:“Dharmaḥ svanuṣṭhitaḥ puṁsāṁ viśvaksena-kathāsu yaḥ, notpādayed yadi ratiṁ, śrama eva hi kevalam.”“Even well-performed duties are useless if they do not lead one toward the Divine.”So may our duties—even in something as simple as choosing what we buy—lead us closer to Truth, to Dharma, and to Bhagavan.Hari Om
