From Chitrakoot Ramayan Satsangh this week- Ayodhya Kaand dohas 87 & 88:
When Guha, the Chief of Nishaad tribe heard that Ram had reached Sringaverapura, he took his close ones,fruits and roots in baskets,and went to receive Him.He prostrated in front of Him and placed his presents as offerings and gazed at him with great affection.Ram lifted him and made him sit by his side, enquiring about his welfare.Guha said that the lotus feet of Ram were the source of all welfare.He said, he could now be counted among the blessed.He declared that all his belongings were Ram’s and that he himself and his family members were his devout servants.He invited Ram to come and stay in his town.
But, Ram replied that he had been instructed to live in the woods for 14 years and live the life of a hermit,therefore he could not accept the offer.
The tribal men and women relished the beauty of the three of them and asked themselves what kind of parents were those who had sent such lovely children to endure the harshness of the woods.Others felt it was their good fortune to be in the presence of the Lord.
Guha then showed an appropriate place under an Ashoka tree for them to stay and Ram liked it.Ram performed his evening devotions while Guha prepared soft beds of leaves on the ground.He then served delicious fruits,roots on leaf bowls to Sumantra,Ram,Sita,and Lakshman.Then Sri Ram retired to sleep and Lakshman pressed His feet.
Notes:
- A true devotee should be like Guha, offering all that he posseses to the Lord and devoting his own life and that of his family at the service of Ram,and the result is instant-Ram takes him up to sit by his side like an equal, a friend;
- Ram is maryada purushotam, he will never depart from principles- he will not live luxuries,even if far from Ayodhya.A lesson for all of us.Live as per principles in thought, words,and action;
3.the sense of duty,respect,devotion,of Lakshman is monumental; he is diligently following the instructions of his mother and translating into actions, sanskaars imbibed at school,from Gurus, and from parents.
